What is it?

A seven-part action plan covering smart-home product supply, technical standards, consumer incentives, elderly-friendly products, recycling, community services and financial support. Specific measures include promoting interoperability standards, supporting local smart-home consumption subsidies and encouraging technologies such as home-service robots and health-monitoring devices.

What does it matter?

The policy aims to move the market beyond standalone smart appliances towards connected, whole-home systems. Standardization is important because incompatible devices can limit the usefulness of an integrated system. The plan also links smart-home adoption to home renovation and demand from China's ageing population.

Implications

Medium–High. Foreign appliance and smart-home technology suppliers should examine interoperability requirements and compatibility with China's evolving technology ecosystem. Opportunities may emerge in connected appliances, elderly-care technology and home renovation.
